David Martelle served in the US Navy for over 21 years. Eventually, he retired as a Chief Electronics Technician from Fleet Technical Support Center Pacific at Pearl Harbor. He then accepted an offer for a civilian position providing technical assistance to Navy Units throughout the Pacific.

After six years of civil service and a six-month contract designing software for Lockheed-Martin, he was recruited by Mazak Optonics as a laser engineer to install industrial lasers throughout North America. This valuable educational experience gave him insights into nearly every aspect of industrial design and manufacturing. He also familiarized himself with small-job shops and major companies like Caterpillar, John Deere, NASA, and countless others.
